The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Theater (IDOB) will hold a special concert “A Nation is Awakening” on October 29, Republic Day.
According to a statement by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Theater, the concert will be held on October 29 at 20:00 at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) Türk Telekom Opera Hall.

The 10-part symphonic work “An Awakening Nation”, composed by composer Oğuzhan Balcı in 2023 as a gift for the 100th anniversary of the Republic, tells about the liberation struggle of the people of Turkey, a country occupied after World War I, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as well as the courage and patriotism of the participants in the struggle.
While Oğuzhan Balcı wrote the lyrics of the work's arias for the three soloists (mezzo-soprano, tenor and baritone) and the symphony orchestra, musicologist Ersin Antep was the text writer and narrator. Oğuzhan Balcı will conduct the İDOB Orchestra at the concert. The concert's soloists will be mezzo-soprano Aylin Ateş, tenor Ufuk Toker and İDOB Director and Baritone Artistic Director Caner Akgün.
