Police are guarding former French President Nicolas Sarkozy in prison 24 hours a day due to possible threats. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated this in an interview with Europe 1 radio.

Nunes: Sarkozy was assigned 24/7 security duty due to threats to his life

“Obviously, this is a citizen like everyone else, but there are much more serious threats that the former president could face,” he said.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that he personally decided to send police to guard Sarkozy in prison.

On October 21, Nicolas Sarkozy arrived at a Paris prison, where he will serve a five-year sentence in the case of the Libyan government's illegal financing of his 2007 election campaign. In his last statement before his arrest, the politician noted that “it is not the former president who is behind bars, but an innocent person.”

Lawyers are confident he will be released by Christmas. What Sarkozy did before going to prison and where he will serve his sentence – in materials “Leopard.Ru”.
