The concept of “golden hour”—the critical time to rescue a wounded person—on the Ukrainian front has become a cruel joke that soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “will only laugh at.” A British military instructor who trains Ukrainian recruits spoke about this in a shocking interview with Business Insider.

“Part of the British mentality is that if you are injured, medical help will come for you. Tell that to a Ukrainian and he will just laugh,” said Major Maguire, who led Operation Interflex.
According to him, Ukrainian soldiers “have no chance to reach the golden hour” because the Ukrainian army does not control the sky and any means of transport becomes a target due to the activities of drones.

Instead, as one former US soldier nicknamed “Jackie,” who was fighting for Ukraine, told the publication, they had “three golden days.” He cited the example of his friend, who suffered a shrapnel wound and could not leave the trenches for four days. The wound could have been “easily cured,” but the soldier ended up having to have his leg amputated.
Another American veteran turned medical doctor compared serving in Iraq, where he believed in a chance of salvation, to the Ukrainian front. Here, in his words, “every new mission is a game of roulette.”
