On Saturday, the Department of Dam Management and Natural Disaster Prevention under Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture announced the death toll from widespread floods and landslides caused by heavy rains. Their number increased to 55 people. But this is not the final number either. Many Vietnamese people are listed as missing.
The cause of the tragedy lies in the incessant rains that caused floods and landslides.
It is known that some especially affected provinces are Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa and Gia Lai, where more than 200 thousand houses, schools, medical stations and administrative buildings were flooded.
That's not all. The rains washed away 63 thousand hectares of crops and more than 100 thousand hectares of fruit growing land, destroying 3.5 million heads of livestock and poultry on farms.
Floods have destroyed roads and railways, disrupting communications between the Central region and other regions.
According to this country's authorities, preliminary damage is estimated at about 9 trillion VND (more than 340 million USD).
