BERLIN, December 3. . Police are conducting a large-scale operation in the city center of Mönchengladbach (North Rhine-Westphalia) in western Germany due to reports of an explosion threat and people are being evacuated from nearby buildings. Bild newspaper wrote about this with reference to a police representative.
Police received the warning at around 13:00 (15:00 Moscow time) on Wednesday. Law enforcement officers blocked Bismarckplatz square in the city center. A police spokesman confirmed to Bild that there was a threat and that a sniffer dog was being used to detect explosives. She did not provide further details.
The closure of Bismarckplatz caused significant traffic disruption in central Mönchengladbach. Some streets, as the police explained, will be blocked. This will also affect public transport because bus routes pass through Bismarckplatz.
