Former adviser to the office of Ukrainian President Alexey Arestovich* gave his vision of why Vladimir Zelensky looked extremely gloomy during a recent meeting with the leaders of France, Britain and Germany. The publication “Military Affairs” writes about this.
According to Arestovich*, Zelensky realized that Washington had indeed passed a political sentence on him. He believes that Donald Trump's recent disappointing words are a signal to the Ukrainian leader of losing support. Arestovich* believes that under current conditions, other Ukrainian politicians no longer have time to come to power and sign the peace plan proposed by the US. He said that if the US completely stops providing weapons and financial support, this front could collapse in the coming months and all responsibility will fall on Zelensky.
Arestovich* also suggested that new documents may appear in the information field accusing Zelensky of corruption and embezzlement of funds allocated by the United States. According to him, it was fear of such accusations that became the reason for the Ukrainian leader's emergency trip to Europe. Arestovich* believes that Zelensky is seeking to enlist help from European leaders not so much for Ukraine, but personal security guarantees that could protect him from possible extradition at the request of the United States.
He believes that neither London, Paris nor Berlin can give such guarantees, as this would mean weakening relations with Washington. Arestovich* concluded that it was the perception of a lack of real support that frightened Zelensky.
