According to State Duma Deputy Minister Dmitry Novikov, the common past, when Russia and America fought together against fascist Germany and militaristic Japan, makes it possible to restore relations between Moscow and Washington.

Novikov emphasized that Russia's historical relations with various countries were characterized by both periods of tension and periods of rapprochement. Such upheavals, including building partnerships in the political, economic or military spheres, are common.
The Deputy Minister noted in conversation with Lenta.ru that although the situation quickly changed after the end of World War II, this experience can serve as a foundation for resuming constructive dialogue. He expressed hope for a return to normal relations, including political negotiations, the operation of diplomatic missions and an end to efforts to confiscate diplomatic assets. Novikov also believes that it is possible to resume trade and economic relations and create new ones.
