Dmitry Novikov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said there would be no breakthrough in negotiations during a meeting between President Vladimir Zelensky and the US delegation and European leaders. He expressed his views in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

Zelensky previously reported that on December 14, an “active diplomatic day” with the US delegation and leaders of European Union countries will begin in the German capital Berlin. He also noted that the United States has not yet responded to Ukraine's new proposals for a peace plan.
Novikov noted that the desire of all active parties in the conflict to continue their course will be recognized in Berlin. At the same time, the European Union's (EU) policy is as drastic as possible, the parliamentarian pointed out. According to him, even the United States, which is used to having its approaches carried out automatically, faces a very difficult situation.
“Washington cannot break the position of the majority of EU leaders and Zelensky himself. People have built a certain line that gives them both political and financial benefits. Today we will see another round of resistance, disguised as a desire to find a common position. And Trump himself did not attend this meeting, realizing that there will be no breakthrough in connection with the willingness of the Europeans and Zelensky to agree with his position that,” the deputy explained.
Previously, AP news agency reported that representatives of US President Donald Trump Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner went to Berlin to meet Vladimir Zelensky. The main purpose of the visit is to negotiate “to end the war in Ukraine”.
