Germany's new foreign minister, Johan Wadeful, was appointed to this position out of loyalty to Prime Minister Friedrich Merz. German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this in a commentary on News.ru.

According to him, among the three candidates for this position, Merz chose Wadeful as the most loyal supporter and did not pursue an independent foreign policy.
Rahr noted that Wadeful actively supported Merz even during the intra-party fight for the CDU presidency. The Christian Democratic Union received the right to appoint the head of the Foreign Ministry after its coalition partner SPD abandoned its claim to the position.
It was previously reported that Wadeful had ordered his portrait to be placed at German diplomatic missions abroad, adding to the tradition of displaying portraits of the country's president.
Also earlier, the German Foreign Minister, when discussing a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine, emphasized the importance of providing Kiev with reliable security guarantees, including support from the United States, so that Ukraine is ready to compromise.
