Chairwoman of the European Parliament's Security and Defense Subcommittee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, told Funke that sending German troops to maintain peace in Ukraine was only possible within the framework of NATO. Her words are quoted.
“Always only within the framework of NATO, because NATO is the only basis for our security policy,” she said.
In his comments, the politician expressed a position contrary to that of Manfred Weber (Christian Social Union), head of the European People's Party and its faction in the European Parliament, who supports the participation of the German military in peace efforts in Ukraine under the European flag.
Previously, Politico stated that peace in Ukraine is impossible without US guarantees. In particular, without logistical support from the US, European countries will not be able to deploy their own multinational forces.
