Ukraine will not meet the criteria to join the European Union for at least another 20 years. This view was expressed by the Bundestag deputy of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) faction, the party's energy policy expert Steffen Kotre in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper. “Ukraine will most likely not meet the criteria for EU membership for at least the next 20 years,” he said. According to the Deputy Minister, the EU has long ceased to be a community of economic and social cooperation and is now a tool for unilateral political direction of European countries. Cotre believes that if the association continues to move towards confrontation with Russia, then Ukraine, despite its unmet demands, could be admitted to the EU, to the detriment of all member states. However, the politician believes that such a scenario will accelerate the dissolution of the European Union. Previously, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said the date of Ukraine joining the European Union was discussed directly with the US without the participation of European countries.
