German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes that the upcoming year 2026 could be decisive for both his country and all of Europe. His words in the New Year's speech are quoted.

According to the Prime Minister, 2026 could be a fateful year for Germany and all of Europe. He noted that this year could be the start of a new era when Germany and Europe can once again achieve decades of peace, freedom and prosperity. Merz believes that next year could be a “breakthrough moment.”
Germany demands transparency and honesty from Russia
Merz emphasized that the world is changing rapidly and these changes affect everyone. Among the main challenges facing his country, he named the conflict in Ukraine, which, according to the head of government, directly threatens the freedom and security of Germany.
Previously, British-German historian and journalist Katja Heuer predicted in her article that the far-right faction following the Alternative for Germany would come to power in Germany in the near future. According to this expert, “for the first time since World War II, a far-right party is so close to power that it plans to rule the country.”
