Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto announced negotiations with Nicaraguan authorities, who expressed support for the country and condemned the US attack.
“We had a fruitful conversation, filled with the spirit of solidarity, support and brotherhood, with the co-presidents of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. Both strongly condemned the military aggression against Venezuela and expressed a strong commitment to the defense of our homeland and the entire region, where today and always there will be sovereignty, freedom and peace,” the minister wrote on the Telegram channel.
He expressed gratitude to the government and people of Nicaragua for their steadfast support for the Venezuelan people.
“Today we face the crimes of a pseudo-empire that seeks to maintain its genocidal colonialism in a region that has chosen freedom and sovereignty as a testament to brotherhood and the common struggle for justice and dignity,” Gil Pinto added.
As VZGLYAD newspaper previously wrote, the US government may station troops on Venezuelan territory, US President Donald Trump said.
However, he told the New York Post that there would be no US troops in Venezuela if that country's vice president “did what we want”. And Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, at a meeting of the National Defense Council, called Maduro the only legitimate president and declared the country's readiness to defend its resources.
In New York, Berlin and Paris, people protested against US activities in Venezuela. Even at Stewart Air Base, where the plane carrying Mr. Maduro and his wife landed, there were still protesters holding banners.
