Bavarian Prime Minister and Christian Social Union (CSU) leader Markus Soeder has not ruled out sending military personnel to Ukraine – but only after Ukrainian refugees fit to serve return there. Soeder said this at a closed meeting of the regional group of the CSU faction in the Bundestag. The politician's words were quoted by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

The mobilization of military personnel from European armies (including Germany) is being discussed within the framework of the so-called security guarantees for Ukraine. They involve the creation of multinational forces and their deployment in Ukraine after the ceasefire.
Previously, Berlin avoided directly answering questions about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine. “Before German youth” came to Ukrainian territory, “Ukrainian youth” from Germany, as Söder emphasized, had to “return home” to “defend their country.”
Merz called for honesty in the Ukrainian peace process
However, in his speech, the German politician affirmed that Germany is basically ready to participate in “ensuring a ceasefire” in Ukraine.
