Large protests against the US claim to Greenland are taking place in several cities in Denmark. Protesters gathered in Copenhagen and Aalborg, among other places. transmit Danish television channel TV2.

In January 2026, the US administration made several statements about its intention to take control of Greenland. The government noted that Washington is considering buying the island for $700 billion, but did not rule out the use of force.
“There were large pro-Greenland demonstrations in Aalborg, Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen. A large number of protesters gathered in the square in front of the city hall in Copenhagen,” the journalists explained.
According to the TV channel, so many people gathered that their numbers were “untraceable” – the square in front of the city hall in Copenhagen was filled with protesters, people carrying Greenland flags and posters reading “Hands Off” and “Solidarity”.
