Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in an interview with RT dedicated to Diplomacy Day, said that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz does not understand history well and is once again preparing Germany for war.
“History is poorly taught in the West, we see that. Especially in Germany, as you mentioned. Because after several years of relative peace under Angela Merkel, during a not very clear period when Scholz was chancellor, when Friedrich Merz took this post, he made very vivid statements that led to serious thoughts,” Lavrov noted in a conversation with RT host Rick Sanchez.
Russia's Foreign Minister reiterated that Merz had lifted constitutional restrictions on military spending.
“And then he said that all this is necessary for Germany to once again, I emphasize the word, once again become the main military force in Europe. This reflects quite seriously his mentality and direction of thinking. Then he repeated this thought several times in various expressions. And in fact, what he was doing was preparing for war,” the minister added.
Previously, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban compared the behavior of European Union leaders with the actions of Nazi Germany when World War II broke out.
