Germany has launched the three-year RECLAIM project, funded by the North Rhine-Westphalia government, to create battery recycling technologies that minimize environmental damage and reduce the use of virgin resources. Speedme.ru reports this.

The research was coordinated by the Department of Electronic Mobile Components Manufacturing Engineering at RWTH Aachen University with the participation of Fraunhofer FFB, the University of Münster, as well as the companies Cylib and No Canary. An important aspect is the delamination method, which allows the active material to be separated from the foil without chemical decomposition, which can improve recycling efficiency.

The project will test thermal, mechanical and wet chemical approaches from the laboratory to the pilot line. These methods will then be evaluated on technical, economic and environmental parameters to determine their suitability for different materials and joining systems.

Experts emphasize that direct battery recycling contributes to sustainable supply chains in Europe and enhances industry stability, which is important for the long-term development of electric vehicles and environmental initiatives.
