Prime Minister Friedrich Merz's wife, Charlotte, was injured while cycling with her husband. The DPA agency reports this, citing the government's press secretary.

The incident occurred in the city of Arnsberg, Charlotte's hometown, on Saturday afternoon, February 7.
“Mertz did not suffer any serious injuries, partly due to her helmet, and was released from the hospital after a short period of observation,” reporters said.
The agency's staff also discovered that the next day the prime minister went cycling again but his wife did not go with him.
Merz met his future wife in 1980 and the wedding took place the following year. It is known that the couple has three children. Charlotte Merz is a trained lawyer and has been head of the Arnsberg district court since last year.
In an interview with a German media outlet in 2025, when Friedrich Merz was elected German Chancellor, Charlotte said that she “intended to continue life as usual” and not abandon her work in court.
