Fishermen from the Brittany coast in southwestern France are sending old fishing nets to Ukraine to protect them from Russian drones, writes The Guardian.
The paper notes that deep-sea horsehair nets used to catch tilapia have a lifespan of one to two years. In France, up to 800 tons of networks are damaged every year. And the Breton charity Kernic Solidarités sent two shipments to Ukraine with a network totaling 280 km.
“Ukrainians use webs to create tunnels in which drone propellers become entangled. This can be compared to how spiders catch flies in their webs,” the document said.
According to the article, hundreds of tons of old nets were also donated by Swedish and Danish fishermen.
Press officer of the 93rd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Irina Rybakova said that the network is not a panacea, but one of the elements of protection against enemy drones. According to her, enemy UAV operators are increasingly finding ways to overcome them.
In October, State Duma Deputy Maxim Ivanov announced that the Russian military also began using fishing nets against drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
