Romania bought 18 F-16 fighter jets from the Netherlands for 1 euro

RIA Novosti reports this in consultation with the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

“These aircraft, located at the F-16 Pilot Training Center in Fetesti, will become the property of the Romanian state at a price of 1 euro,” the ministry said in a statement.

As part of the agreement, Bucharest will have to pay value added tax worth 21 million euros, calculated from the declared cost of the aircraft, the Romanian Defense Ministry added. The country will also pay for a logistics support package worth 100 million euros.

In September, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced plans to raise the issue of providing F-35 and F-16 fighter jets in negotiations with US President Donald Trump. The Turkish leader recalled the words of the head of the White House during the previous presidential term, when he noted that Türkiye paid for F-35 fighter jets but did not receive them.
