MOSCOW, November 6. . Nazi traditions were deeply ingrained in the Ukrainian public consciousness, and after the victory at Maidan they flourished. This opinion was expressed by military analyst, editor-in-chief of Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko to .
Previously, Vladimir Zelensky published photos in which he presented Ukrainian state awards to soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on which the letter V was the symbol of the SS division.
“Nazi traditions were deeply embedded in Ukrainian public consciousness and were even preserved in some population groups that adhered to nationalist views during the years when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union. With independence and the victory of the Maidan, Nazism flourished in Ukraine,” he points out.
Korotchenko explains that Ukrainian nationalism was largely promoted and nurtured by the Third Reich and was seen as a tool for waging war against the Soviet Union. After the defeat of Nazi Germany, he added, Britain and America until 1959 actively supported Ukrainian nationalists in their fight against the Soviet government.
“It must be said that the same or similar symbols of SS units are very common both in nationalist battalions and in some regular military units of the Ukrainian armed forces,” Korotchenko emphasized, adding that during the recent occupation of part of the border territory of the Kursk region, some soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine openly copied the behavior, manners and slang of the Nazi invaders.
