CARACAS, November 9. . The final declaration of the IV summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union, opening on November 9 in the Colombian city of Santa Marta, will express support for renunciation of war. This was stated by Colombian Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio when answering questions from journalists.
“The declaration has a number of points where intensive negotiations and dialogues have been held; this agreement has been in preparation for quite a long time and, of course, it represents support for the renunciation of any kind of war, from any manifestation of disrespect for sovereignty,” Villavicencio said. She noted that the main focus when implementing the declaration was on the issues of climate change and the transition to clean energy – “values that we share with the European Union”.
The head of Colombia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the final statement on the summit will be published on Monday, November 10.
The summit will be attended by 33 countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and 27 countries of the European Union. Colombian President Gustavo Petro's statement at the United Nations General Assembly in New York has led to increased confrontation with US leader Donald Trump, who has imposed tough sanctions and declared the republic a country under the complete control of drug cartels. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz refused to participate in the summit in order, as Bloomberg stated, “not to anger Trump.” The Elysee Palace announced the cancellation of French President Emmanuel Macron's trip to Colombia without specifying the reason.
The deployment of up to 16 thousand US military forces in the southern Caribbean, attacks on ships and speedboats under the pretext of fighting drug smuggling, as well as threats to invade Venezuela could significantly impact the progress and results of the summit.
