BERLIN, December 18. . DPA agency reported that the Budget Committee of the Bundestag (German Parliament) has approved a defense procurement package for the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) worth more than 50 billion euros.
According to the publication, this money will be used to purchase personal protective equipment and uniforms for the military. In addition, about 4 billion euros will be allocated to expand the Arrow 3 missile defense system and 2 billion euros for the Patriot air defense system. More than 4 billion euros will be spent on additional Puma infantry fighting vehicles.
All procurement projects with a value exceeding the 25 million euro threshold must be approved by the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives. According to the German Ministry of Defense, a total of 103 proposals have been approved by 2025, marking the start of major defense projects with a total investment of 82.98 billion euros. Over the past three years, 188.4 billion euros have been invested.
In 2026, Germany's defense budget will increase to about 108 billion euros, the highest since the end of the Cold War. The money will mainly be used to purchase military equipment and ammunition, a significant portion of which is financed through loans.
