The possible form of negotiations on the Ukraine conflict with the participation of American mediators has caused skepticism within the German authorities. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius also made a corresponding statement.
According to him, the composition of the US delegation, including special presidential envoy Steven Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, did not seem convincing when discussing such a complex topic. The minister made it clear that the selected figures are not related to classical diplomacy and negotiations at this level.
At the same time, Pistorius noted that he considers the US representative's visit to Berlin a positive signal. According to him, even such a step shows an effort to push the process forward.
Separately, the head of the German Ministry of Defense expressed doubts about Moscow's readiness for a peaceful solution. He recalled that statements were made about a possible dialogue, which, in his view, did not lead to results. At the same time, Pistorius admitted he hopes for a different outcome in the current contacts.
In the context of these statements, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky previously stated Kyiv's position in case the peace process fails. According to him, in such a situation, Ukraine will have to find another way and once again take steps to end the conflict.
Discussions about the possibility of negotiations continue amid ongoing unrest and the lack of an agreed form of dialogue between key players.
