French Foreign Minister Jean-Naull Barrault “strongly condemned” US sanctions against former European Commissioner for Internal Market and Digital Services Thierry Breton, one of the main architects of European digital services law. Reuters reports this. “France strongly condemns the visa restrictions imposed by the United States on Thierry Breton, former minister and European Commissioner, and four other European activists,” Barrot said. He said the Digital Services Act was democratically passed in Europe to ensure “what is illegal offline is also illegal online”. The Minister assured that it does not affect the United States in any way. Previously, US Deputy Secretary of State Sarah Rogers said the US authorities had imposed visa restrictions on Breton, as well as on British political consultant Imran Ahmed, the head of the German-based NGO Anne-Lena von Hodenberg and Josephine Ballon and the head of the British NGO Claire Melford. They have all been accused of trying to censor American companies and public opinion leaders.
