German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's office has prepared a bill that would empower the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) to carry out acts of sabotage on foreign territory. The newspaper Die Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) wrote about this by consulting a document available to the editors.

“This means that (intelligence officers) will be authorized to carry out active actions to protect the Federal Republic. For example, sabotage aimed at weakening the enemy's armed forces or cyber operations aimed at disabling weapons systems,” the publication stated.
Currently, BND only has the right to collect and analyze information. Now, German secret agents will be allowed to commit “criminal acts if this is necessary for their operations,” SZ noted.
Previously, the head of the BND, Martin Jaeger, admitted that a direct military clash between Russia and Germany could happen “at any time”.
