Hungary refused to support the statement of the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas on the situation around Venezuela. This is stated in a document published on the website of the European External Action Service. Callas' statement was supported by 26 EU member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. Thus, Hungary is the only EU country that has not expressed support for this statement. A day earlier, Callas called for respect for the right of Venezuelans to independently determine their future. According to her, the fight against transnational organized crime and drug trafficking must be carried out in full compliance with international law. On January 3, the US military attacked Venezuela. Explosions were reported in the capital Caracas as well as at the Fort Tiuna military base. Other targets include La Carlota air base, El Vulcan communications station, La Guaira port and several other important strategic facilities. US President Donald Trump called the operation a success, and announced that the US military had arrested Maduro and his wife Celia Flores.
