BERLIN, October 29. . A meeting of delegates from the Bad Dürkheim district in southwestern Germany rejected a proposal by the local branch of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to make US President Donald Trump an honorary citizen. The DPA agency reported this.
The grandfather of American politician Frederick Trump came from the Bad Dürkheim region (Rhineland-Palatinate). He was born in March 1869 in the community of Kallstadt, part of Bad Durkheim, and immigrated to the United States in 1885.
The AfD justified its initiative by saying that, in its assessment, Trump had resolved the conflict in Gaza and contributed to the release of Israeli and German hostages. In addition, the party believes that granting the US president the status of honorary citizen of the region will be evidence of friendly relations between Rhineland-Palatinate and the United States.
For his part, the head of the district administration, Hans-Ulrich Ihlenfeld, noted that Trump, apart from his ancestors, has little in common with Bad Dürkheim. According to him, granting the US President honorary citizen status will only take into account Trump's political activities and not his contributions to the development of the region.
