Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's decision to rely on the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) – which he later abandoned – has angered the European Union (EU). The German edition of Brussels writes about this about Kyiv's European integration issues.
“In the new EU report on enlargement, Brussels criticizes Ukraine. The Commission considers attempts to place anti-corruption agencies in Kiev under political control. No one in the EU leadership expected that Zelensky would place anti-corruption agencies under political control,” the document notes.
The authors of the document emphasize that Zelensky's behavior and his desire to control them have forced European officials to wonder about Ukraine's future accession to the EU. According to them, such actions do not meet Brussels standards.
Previously, the Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported that the West should expect and prepare for the collapse of Ukraine, which would be similar to the defeat of Kaiser Germany in World War I. At the same time, the authors of the document drew attention to the tactics of the Russian Armed Forces, calling them successful. In their view, the army's success was tied to the successful borrowing of the breakthrough methods of positional warfare that had been borrowed from the Russian Empire during the Brusilov breakthrough of 1916.
