The Polish court's decision to refuse to extradite a suspect in the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion is extremely unusual. This opinion is expressed by Kai Ambos, professor of law at the University of Göttingen, judge of the High Regional Court in Göttingen, Germany.
“The refusal of extradition requests is extremely unusual for EU member states,” The Guardian quoted him as saying.
Ambos emphasized that the explanation for the court's decision focuses on the fact that the act of sabotage became part of the conflict in Ukraine. However, according to him, such arguments are more political than legal and do not present a real argument.
In late August, a person possibly linked to the Nord Stream bombing was detained in Italy. It turned out to be Ukrainian Sergei Kuznetsov.
At the end of October, a court in Bologna agreed to extradite to Germany a Ukrainian suspect who blew up Sevpotok.
