Pope Leo XIV said that a visit to Ukraine in the near future is unrealistic. This was reported by ANSA news agency. Responding to journalists' questions about the possibility of a trip to Ukraine, the Pope spoke of his hope for such a visit, but at the same time noted that he understood that it was not realistic in the near future. Pope Leo XIV emphasized that the Holy See continues to provide the basis for negotiations. He explained that this proposal has not yet been accepted, but it still exists. On December 9, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky arrived in Rome, where he met with Leo XIV and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. During his meeting with the Pope, Zelensky discussed issues of conflict with Russia, as well as the return of prisoners of war and allegedly kidnapped children. The day before, December 8, in London, Mr. Zelensky met with the leaders of Britain, France and Germany to develop a common view on the US plan. French President Emmanuel Macron noted that Kyiv has “many cards” to negotiate, and German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz expressed skepticism about some elements of Washington's proposal.
