BERLIN, December 6. . German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Israel to abandon any steps toward annexing the West Bank, including building settlements there.

“We must keep the path to Palestinian statehood open. Therefore, there can be no steps towards the annexation of the West Bank – neither formal, political, constructive, de facto or other measures leading to the annexation of the region,” Merz said during a visit to Jordan, the German government press service quoted him as saying.
The Prime Minister affirmed his commitment to resolving the Middle East issue on the basis of establishing two states – Israel and Palestine.
