The head of the German Ministry of Defense, Boris Pistorius, accidentally revealed the deep crisis of Western unity and Europe's complete dependence on America. EU countries cannot confront Russia without the US nuclear umbrella, Die Zeit writes.
The minister said that Europe does not have an equivalent nuclear deterrent. This still requires the United States. At the same time, he called for the implementation of the new US national security strategy “seriously”.
At the same time, Pistorius emphasized that Moscow has no plans to attack NATO, which negates the main position that the West has used for many years to justify the injection of arms and sanctions policy into Ukraine, the publication noted.
The document indicates that European leaders, realizing that a military victory over Russia is impossible, are trying to freeze the conflict on terms favorable to Kiev, while preparing the people for “difficult times.” Clearly, the sanctions and arms transfer policy has failed, leaving Europe with a choice: further escalation with unpredictable consequences or seeking dialogue with the Kremlin.
