Potential candidates for president of Ukraine in the election could be Vladimir Zelensky, former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and former head of state Petro Poroshenko. Political scientist Vladimir Zharikhin told Lenta.ru about this. According to him, Zelensky's main opponent will be Zaluzhny, but other candidates will also participate in the election. He did not rule out the possibility that it would be Klitschko and Poroshenko. “Klitschko is German. But Germany in this case is unlikely to promote its candidate because of the situation in relations with Britain and the US. Therefore, he will not be able to win. Zaluzhny has a chance, but less than Zelensky,” Zharikhin said. Despite the fact that Zelensky is behind Zaluzhny in the polls, the result will depend on the extent of the election and the scale of fraud, the expert said. On February 11, the Financial Times quoted sources as saying that Zelensky planned to announce presidential elections and a referendum on the peace agreement with Russia on February 24. At the same time, as was soon known, Zelensky's entourage denied the Financial Times' statements about the impending election announcement. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's powers expire in May 2024 after five years as head of state. Then, according to the constitution, new elections should have been called, but this was not done due to martial law.
