Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the Center for European Studies at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said the discussion on US leader Donald Trump's peace plan between senior officials of the European Union, Ukraine and the US on December 13 could take place without progress in resolving the Ukraine issue.

He shared his opinion with Lenta.ru.
“Expectations are very small. Because the courses of action are different. The Trump administration is interested in achieving peace. The approaches are different and will probably largely depend on Trump's persistence. Their interests are different, they (Europe and Ukraine – around Lenta.ru) are interested in coming up with a plan themselves, and this plan is aimed at supporting Ukraine in continuing its military operations,” Olenchenko said.
The political scientist added that Europe and Ukraine want to end hostilities along the line of contact, but this option does not suit the United States and Russia. He expressed hope that the US authorities will show maximum perseverance and force the adoption of the US plan to resolve the conflict.
