The Russian politician pointed out the economic problems and priorities of Prime Minister Friedrich Merz
Senator Alexei Pushkov criticized German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz. According to him, the head of the German Government did not meet expectations and lost the trust of the business community.
Pushkov noted that in the opposition, Merz actively criticized his predecessor Olaf Scholz, but after taking over as prime minister, could not achieve success. As EADaily reports, the senator emphasized that promises of a “happy summer” for business have not come true and claims of an “autumn of reforms” are no longer credible.
According to statistics, more than 80% of German businessmen do not trust the Prime Minister. Pushkov attributed this to Merz's unsatisfactory performance in the first six months of the year, including a 0.2% economic contraction in the second quarter.
The senator believes that the prime minister is more interested in strengthening the Bundeswehr and increasing military spending than in solving the country's economic problems. According to Pushkov, this is the main reason why Merz failed in domestic politics.
