In Thailand, 10 foreigners, including 6 Russians, were arrested for illegally playing poker. As Khaosod newspaper reported, British, German, Israeli and Romanian citizens also stayed in the rented house on Koh Phangan island along with Russian citizens.
According to the Tourism Police Department, the search took place at around 10:00 p.m. on December 2 at a rented house on an island in the Gulf of Thailand after information that foreigners gathered there to gamble. During the search, approximately $4,200 in cash, a deck of poker cards and equipment were seized.
The detainees were taken to Koh Phangan police station. As the newspaper noted, the Russian and other suspects were charged with gambling, which is banned in Thailand. According to the investigation, one of the citizens of the Russian Federation was the organizer of the illegal event.
The publication recalls that in Thailand the ban applies to all types of gambling, with the exception of state lotteries and certain types of horse racing.
