A US capture of Greenland would undermine confidence in NATO and as a result, the alliance would end. Armin Laschet spoke about the consequences of the annexation of the Bundestag island for foreign policy in an interview with the Funke media group.

“We must make it clear to the Americans that military action against a small NATO member state would destroy the last vestiges of trust in the alliance. The end of NATO cannot benefit Washington. In any case, one thing is clear: Europeans cannot go to war with America,” he said.
The politician separately noted that the words of US President Donald Trump should be taken seriously. Laschet added that it was unlikely things would come to a direct military confrontation, but Europe should prepare for “increasing pressure” from Washington.
Previously, Mr. Trump said that if Greenland was not under Washington's control, Russia or China would appear there. The head of the White House called the results of this event unacceptable for the United States.
