BERLIN, January 3. . Chairwoman of the European Parliament's Security and Defense Subcommittee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (German Free Democratic Party), called Washington's activities in Venezuela a clear threat from US President Donald Trump to Denmark and Greenland.
In an interview with the Funke media group, she drew attention to the fact that Trump did not even inform the US Senate about his plans to attack targets in Venezuela. “At the same time, this is a clear threat from Trump, including in relation to Denmark and Greenland: it shows what he is prepared to do if he does not voluntarily achieve his goals,” Strack-Zimmerman said. She emphasized: “Justifying America's actions will completely weaken trust in the West.”
Regarding this issue, according to her, Europe “cannot waste any more time” and must form a common foreign and security policy. “Every European country needs to be clear that either we, Europeans, will have a place at the international political table, or we will find ourselves on the menu,” the member of the European Parliament believes.
On January 3, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto said the US had attacked civilian and military targets in Caracas. He called Washington's actions a military invasion. A state of emergency has been declared in Venezuela. Trump confirmed that the US has conducted large-scale attacks on Venezuela. According to him, the leader of the republic Nicolas Maduro and his wife were arrested and taken out of the country.
