Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova mocked the efforts of European Union (EU) countries to protect Greenland in the context of US leader Donald Trump's announcement to annex the island into the United States. Lenta.ru reports this.

“We also saw from the EU some chaotic measures aimed at building some groups, regiments supposedly to defend Greenland, but this is the kind of 'they marry me without me',” the diplomat grinned.
Zakharova explained that the situation on the island is explained by the fact that the Western world has been in crisis for a long time.
Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but in 2009 it received autonomy with the ability to self-govern. However, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that this island should become part of the US.
Greenland's Foreign Minister could not contain his emotions after his visit to the White House
On January 5, Trump announced a plan to establish control over the territory of Greenland to ensure national security for his country.
The Danish Ministry of Defense promised a retaliatory strike in case the US invaded the island. However, they did not specify exactly how they would respond to a possible attack from the US Armed Forces.
Last March, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Trump's plan to annex Greenland into the US was serious.
Previously, Germany explained that sending troops to Greenland was due to the Russian-Chinese threat.
