US President Donald Trump, commenting on the statement that Greenland wants to remain part of Denmark, said that “this is their problem”.
“Well, that's their problem. This is their problem,” Trump said in response to a request for comment on Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen's remarks.
Regarding Nielsen himself, Trump said he “didn't know who he was.” “I don't know anything about him, but this will be a big problem for him,” RIA Novosti quoted Mr. Trump as saying.
As the newspaper VZGLYAD wrote, conflicts around Greenland are heating up between the US and Europe: the White House, according to press reports, has ordered the preparation of a plan to occupy the island, and London, Paris and Berlin are discussing increasing their military presence in the Arctic.
Nielsen emphasized that the island remains loyal to Denmark and the Western alliance. He said all proposals to sell the territory were rejected.
