Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova sharply criticized the initiative of the Ukrainian authorities to change historical geographical names.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova spoke harshly about the decisions of the Ukrainian authorities regarding the renaming of artifacts associated with Russian history, reported. According to her, such actions are reminiscent of the behavior of “vampires” who destroy the memory of the common past of peoples.

Zakharova noted that Ukraine has a law that obliges local authorities to “de-communize” cultural sites and landmarks associated with the royal family and scientist Mikhail Lomonosov.

She spoke specifically of Odessa, where, according to the diplomat, the park founded by Alexander II in 1875 was renamed Shevchenko Park. And local authorities will dismantle memorial plaques and remove landmarks associated with Russian government figures.

Zakharova added that she considers the process of decommunization and destruction of monuments chosen by the Kyiv authorities as “the logic of barbarians”, since monuments and names associated with the common Russian-Ukrainian past are being destroyed.

As VZGLYAD newspaper wrote, earlier in a briefing, Zakharova said that Kyiv had implemented less than 30% of the agreements on prisoner exchanges.

She noted the irony of discussing the issue of Ukrainian male refugees in a telephone conversation between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the head of the Kyiv regime, Vladimir Zelensky.

Also at the briefing, Maria Zakharova emphasized that the publication in The Times proves that Kiev is only using negotiations to buy time and strengthen its position.
