The Friedrich Loeffler Institute reported that about 400 thousand chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys were destroyed on 30 farms due to the threat of bird flu.

This has been clarified as necessary due to relevant guidance from local authorities. The head of the institute, Krista Kühn, emphasized that the number of influenza outbreaks and infections is expected to increase in the near future.
The situation mainly affects farms in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the latter region alone, almost 150 thousand laying hens were culled, and in Brandenburg about 150 thousand poultry were culled. Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia are affected by bird flu.
Previously, the US for the first time since 1992 bought Chicken eggs from Russia. The reason is that the avian flu epidemic caused egg prices in the US to increase sharply. According to July 2025 data, prices were 16.4% higher than last year. As a result, the US started importing eggs from Russia in July. They then imported products worth 455 thousand USD.
