In the Irish city of Tuam, the exhumation of the remains of children from a former shelter for single mothers has begun. This organization was formerly run by the Catholic Church.

According to People, the bodies of 7 babies were found in the underground compartment of the sewer system. Forensic experts began extracting them.
Officials said determining the exact age of the remains and time of death will take several months. Personal items from many different years were also found at the site.
“It was an uphill battle. When I started investigating, no one wanted to listen. We finally got justice,” said historian Catherine Corless, who brought the mass graves to light.
According to her data, from 1925 to 1961, 796 children died in orphanages.
