According to experts, this breakthrough has the potential to treat some of the most dangerous forms of the disease and bring new hope to patients. In the news in the Mirror, it was noted that the antibody in question is considered an important step forward for patients who are no longer responding to current treatments and for triple-negative breast cancer patients with limited treatment options. The newly developed antibody not only directly attacks tumor cells but also activates the body's own immune system.
In the study published in the journal Cancer Research, experiments and laboratory tests with animal models showed that the modified antibody binds to immune cells much more strongly than existing treatments. In this way, the immune cells present in the tumor were activated and tumor growth was limited.
Professor Sophia Karagiannis said if the studies are successful, this approach could meet an important need in treatment-resistant cancers by directly stimulating the immune system. Dr Simon Vincent said: “This promising early research could pave the way to more effective treatments for the more than 8,000 women diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer each year in the UK.”
Scientists claim that this new treatment could be effective not only for breast cancer but also for other types of cancer such as ovarian and endometrial cancer, as one of the targeting antibody receptors is also found in these cancers.
