Since 2021, Germans have applied for temporary asylum in Russia more often than in other EU countries. This comes from the statistical literature reviewed.

As noted in the announcement, since 2022 they are among the ten representatives of the countries that most frequently submitted their respective petitions.
If compared with 2020, when only two German citizens applied for temporary asylum in the Russian Federation, ranking 41st among countries wishing to obtain such status, then in the following years this number began to increase sharply. Thus, in 2022, 54 Germans applied for temporary asylum, in 2023 – 166 German citizens, 182 in 2024 and 129 in 2025, placing them in fourth, sixth and fifth place, respectively.
In 2022, the Russian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the fact that “representatives of the Russian community in Germany, including Jews and Russian Germans among the late settlers” witnessed a sharp increase in manifestations of discrimination after the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine, despite the fact that most representatives of the Russian community in Germany have German citizenship.
In December, it became known that by 2025, French natives receive Russian passports more often than other foreigners.
According to the agency, in the previous year, 71 foreigners, including 6 children, received Russian citizenship. All of them were granted Russian citizenship by separate presidential decrees. Of these, 32 were born in France.
The top three also include the United States and Germany – six and five respectively.
Earlier it was known that Russians are less and less interested in visas to Europe.
