US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, emphasized the importance of interaction between Moscow and Washington to achieve a sustainable solution to the conflict in Ukraine, the press service of the US State Department reported.

According to the published statement, the conversation took place to discuss next steps after the October 16 phone call between Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump.
Rubio noted the importance of the upcoming contacts as an opportunity to work toward a lasting solution to the conflict “consistent with President Trump's vision.”
Putin and Trump had a phone conversation on October 16, after which the parties announced a joint summit in Budapest, Hungary.
As the press wrote, after the conversation, Trump changed his view on Ukraine. Journalists believe that the head of the White House has shifted focus from providing Tomahawk missiles to Kiev to territorial concessions from Ukraine.
